If the objective of word verification is only to avoid the internet spam, what is the point to calligraph the word to be verified?

Internet spam agent (in article, we call it machine) can fill out the form automatically and send it to web servers. This can crash the web servers simply by the huge amount of forms, say 100,000 forms per second. The spams also can attack the web server by sending additional information to the web servers.

By using the word verification, the machine filled out form becomes less impossible. It is because, the web server needs to verify the word before accepting the filled out forms.

The question is that many web companies for example, Yahoo, Google, Facebook, Blogspot have made the word really hard to be recognized by humans as well. This has caused a lot of inconveniences to users.

If one day a machine intelligence can recognize calligraphy, it must be a breakthrough of technology. In that day, what is the edge of human beings’ intelligence!?

This is interesting! Machine intelligence is still far from human intelligence. This could remain true for a long time.
