Empowering people

This article is a correspondent to the post by Erika. In the post, Erika described five social classes in Hinduism.

Brahmins –  priestly class
Kshatriyas –  warrior class
Vaishyas –  merchant and peasant class
Shudras –  laboring class
Untouchables – outcastes

Similarly, you can find another more explicit description of the five classes.

People’s view point of the cast system

Most people believe the cast system is against human liberty.  Many believe the source of the cast system is due to poverty and  illiteracy. This is the motivation to empower people by open education, by open technology, by open science.

What is about empowering people?

Empowering people is to empower every one, not some one. It is to give every one an opportunity to access the education, freedom of acting, technology, and science. The empowering process is also not biased by the intelligence, color, race, culture and so on.

Open education, open technology, and open science can help

Open education, technology is still a fairly new concept. It has very clear objective. It is to reduce monopoly, share the knowledge, and engage through collaboration. It is much driven by the recent movement of software open source, initiated from 1998 – present. Now the concept of open source has also been adopted in educationfoodmedicine, automobile, and science.

Open education, technology, and science is to help people to access the resources with the minimal effort. Traditionally, the right of accessing education, knowing technology is in the hand of some few people and companies. Many people do not have the chance to go to school. Even he/she has the opportunity, it is also a long process.

People have to go to university to get formal training, get a job in these companies, start to work, learn the existing technology and create new technology. It is apparent this process  could take at least 10 – 15 years. Open education can facilitate the learning process and minimize the number of years having to learn in the school.

It is not sure whether Erika really deleted some comments. But, it is agreed that the cast system is not accepted by people who made comments on Erika’s article.
