Mobile phone for super computing? Yes!
Smart phone: a super computing platform
Have you even ever thought about using mobile phone for scientific computing? This is probably also the doubt for MIT researchers. But, they have made a bold step to try this out.
MIT researchers Huong Huynh, David Knezevic, and Mark Wittels try their fluid simulation on the Android phone. The work is about the fluid simulation, where fluid flows in the pipe with obstacles. This work typically require super computer to work about an hour. They developed a new method called Rapid Reliable Solution of the Parametrized Partial Differential Equations of Continuum Mechanics and Transport to rapidly calculate the solutions of partial differential equations in fluid mechanics. With the new method, it only requires smart phone to simulate the fluid flow field, which normally need super computer’s many hours work.
